Students abroad witness papal election

On March 13, 2013, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now known as Pope Francis, was chosen to succeed Pope Benedict after two weeks of deliberation by the conclave of cardinals.
Pope Francis is the first Pope from Latin America and the third consecutive non-Italian to hold the position. Many Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s students abroad were for his holiness’ historic selection.
